For thousands of years the nations of Gog and Magog have dug at the barrier built by Dhul-Qarnayn. Every day they almost break through, their leader says "Tomorrow we will finish it," and the barrier returns as it was, until the day he says "if Allah wills." They break out and overrun the earth; the believers take refuge on a mountain with Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) and turn to Allah in du'a. Allah sends a tiny creature that destroys them all, and the rain washes the earth.

The verses

  1. Al-Kahf 18:94

They said: "O Dhul-Qarnain! Verily Ya’jûj and Ma’jûj (Gog and Magog) are doing great mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute in order that you might erect a barrier between us and them?"

  2. Al-Kahf 18:95

He said: "That (wealth, authority and power) in which my Lord had established me is better (than your tribute). So help me with strength (of men), I will erect between you and them a barrier.

  3. Al-Kahf 18:96

"Give me pieces (blocks) of iron;" then, when he had filled up the gap between the two mountain-cliffs, he said: "Blow;" then when he had made them (red as) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper to pour over them."

  4. Al-Kahf 18:97

So they [Ya’jûj and Ma’jûj (Gog and Magog)] could not scale it or dig through it.

  5. Al-Kahf 18:98

(Dhul-Qarnain) said: "This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He shall level it down to the ground. And the Promise of my Lord is ever true."

  6. Al-Anbiya 21:96

Until, when Ya’jûj and Ma’jûj (Gog and Magog) are let loose (from their barrier), and they swoop down from every mound.

  7. Al-Anbiya 21:97

And the true promise (Day of Resurrection) shall draw near (of fulfillment). Then (when mankind is resurrected from their graves), you shall see the eyes of the disbelievers fixedly staring in horror. (They will say): "Woe to us! We were indeed heedless of this - nay, but we were Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)."
