And in the same way, We woke them up, so that they would ask one another. One of them asked, “How long have you stayed here?” They said, “A day, or part of a day.” They said, “Your Lord knows best how long you have stayed. Let him be careful, and let no one know about you.Meaning in plain language (Qabas Anime)

  12. Al-Kahf 18:20

If they find you, they will stone you, or force you back into their religion, and then you would never succeed.”Meaning in plain language (Qabas Anime)

  13. Al-Kahf 18:21

And so We let people find them, so they would know Allah's promise is true and the Hour (the Day of Judgement) is certain. That was when the people argued among themselves about them. Some said, “Build a building over them. Their Lord knows best about them.” Those who won the argument said, “We will surely build a place of prayer over them.”Meaning in plain language (Qabas Anime)

  14. Al-Kahf 18:22

Some will say they were three, and their dog was the fourth. Others will say they were five, and their dog was the sixth, guessing about what they cannot know. And others will say they were seven, and their dog was the eighth. Say: “My Lord knows best how many they were. Only a few people know.” So do not argue about them except in a simple, clear way, and do not ask any of these people about them.Meaning in plain language (Qabas Anime)

  15. Al-Kahf 18:23

without adding, “If Allah wills.” And remember your Lord when you forget, and say, “Perhaps my Lord will guide me to something even closer to what is right than this.”Meaning in plain language (Qabas Anime)

  17. Al-Kahf 18:25

Say: “Allah knows best how long they stayed. He knows what is hidden in the heavens and the earth. How well He sees, and how well He hears! They have no protector besides Him, and He shares His rule with no one.”Meaning in plain language (Qabas Anime)

The words of the episode, from the English subtitles of the original voice.

What if you slept for just one night… and woke up three hundred years later? That is exactly what happened… to a group of young men who fled from a tyrant king.

“Where did you get this?! This is the coin of a king… who died three hundred years ago!” A true story… that Allah tells in the Quran.

In an ancient city… the people worshipped idols, and a tyrant king ruled over them. Anyone who worshipped Allah alone… was put to death. But some young men, sons of noble families… met in secret to pray to Allah. Until someone betrayed them…

…and the soldiers stormed in.

They dragged them out one by one… tied up like criminals.

But their hearts… were calm, trusting in Allah.

They had first met… on the day of the idol festival. That day, each of them slipped away on his own… and they sat under a tree, none of them knowing the others' secret. Until one of them said: “By Allah, something has made each of you leave your people…” “Let each of you reveal his secret!” And it turned out that all of them… worshipped no one but Allah. They were dragged to the king's palace… young men on their own, before a king and his soldiers. We tell you their story as it truly is: young men who believed in their Lord, and We gave them even more guidance. And We made their hearts firm when they stood up and said: “Our Lord is Lord of the heavens and earth. We will never pray to any god but Him. If we did, it would be far from the truth.” (Al-Kahf 18:13–14) The king flew into a rage… and shouted: “I see you are only boys… I'll give you a few days. Go back to the religion of your fathers… or I will kill you!” And he had their noble robes torn off them… in front of everyone.

But those days… were a mercy from Allah. That night… they took a few silver coins, gave some of them to the poor, and fled the city.

A dog followed them… and never left their side.

The king found out… and sent his soldiers after them.

They climbed the mountain… as the torches drew closer.

Running through the dark… with death right behind them.

Until they found a cave… they went in, and raised their hands to Allah. When the young men took refuge in the cave, they said: “Our Lord, give us mercy from Yourself, Our Lord, give us mercy from Yourself, and guide us rightly in what we face.” (Al-Kahf 18:10) Their eyes grew heavy… and Allah cast sleep over them.

The soldiers reached the mouth of the cave… their captain raised his torch, and looked. You would think them awake, yet they slept. We turned them over, right and left, and their dog lay at the entrance, paws out. If you had seen them, you would have fled and been filled with terror. (Al-Kahf 18:18) And so Allah protected them… with fear.

And the sun… would turn away from them, never touching them.

And the years went by…

Allah wrapped them in such awe… that anyone who saw them ran away in terror. The tyrant king died… and his idols fell. Generations came… and generations went.

And they, in their cave… felt nothing at all. And they stayed in their cave 300 years, and nine more. (Al-Kahf 18:25) Then… Allah woke them up.

“How long have we slept?” They thought it had been a day… or less than a day. They were hungry… so they sent one of them to the city with the silver coins, and told him to be careful and not tell anyone where they were. He went down to the city… but he didn't recognise it. The streets were different… the faces were different… and there was no trace of an idol in the square. He went up to a seller… and handed him a silver coin. “Where did you get this?! This is the coin of a king… who died three hundred years ago!” “Three hundred years?! I left this place… yesterday!” People shouted: "He's found a treasure!"… and surrounded him on every side. He ran… and they chased him through the markets, He leapt over the stalls… with the crowd shouting behind him.

From alley to alley… until the way ahead was blocked.

…until they caught him, and dragged him to the city's ruler. He was a believer… and the people of the city now worshipped Allah.

But they argued among themselves… would Allah bring bodies back to life after death? When the ruler heard his story… he stared at the coin for a long time. The ruler and the people climbed up to the cave with him… and he went in first, alone, to tell his companions.

Then they understood… that the whole world had changed, and that their families had died long ago.

So they lay back down where they had slept…

It is said that Allah took their souls there… and Allah knows best.

So why did Allah make them sleep for three hundred years? So that people would know… that the One who woke them after three hundred years can bring the dead back to life on the Day of Resurrection. And that whoever turns to Allah with faith… Allah gives him a way out of every hardship. And whoever gives something up for Allah… Allah gives him something better in return. And Allah, the Most High, says: And so We let people find them, so they would know Allah's promise is true so they would know Allah's promise is true and the Hour (the Day of Judgement) is certain. (Al-Kahf 18:21)
