Privacy Policy
Last updated:
Qabas (myqabas.com) is a free, non-profit project that teaches Islam through animated stories. We collect as little as possible: there are no ads, no analytics or tracking, and we never sell or share personal data for marketing. This policy explains exactly what is processed when you use the site, why, for how long, and what your rights are.
Who is responsible
The site is run by Qabas, a free, non-profit project.
Contact for any privacy question or request: myqabasanime (at) gmail (dot) com.
Watching and reading: no account, no tracking
You can watch every episode and read every text without an account. We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, fingerprinting or social media plugins.
Like every website, our hosting provider receives technical data needed to deliver the pages and protect the service (IP address, browser type, requested address, time). We do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.
Likes and reports
When you like an episode or report a problem, your browser creates a random identifier and keeps it in its local storage. Our server stores only a one-way hash of it (it cannot be turned back into the identifier), so that each device can like an episode once and cannot send the same report repeatedly.
To stop abuse, we also store a keyed one-way hash of your IP address next to the like or report and count recent actions from the same network. The IP address itself is never stored.
A report also stores the reason you chose, the optional text you write, the page language and the time. Reports are only read by the moderator.
A like stays until you remove it or the episode is removed. Reports are kept only as long as needed to handle them; the moderator deletes them once they are handled.
Signing in and comments (when available)
Signing in is only needed to comment. It uses Google sign-in: Google tells us your name, email address and Google account identifier. We use them to run your account, to show your name next to your approved comments and to contact you about your comments if needed.
Comments are checked by a moderator before they appear. We store the text, the episode, the page language, the time and the moderation status. Only your name and the comment text are shown publicly.
While you are signed in, a secure session cookie keeps you signed in. You can delete your account and comments at any time by writing to the contact address; we then delete them within 30 days.
What your browser keeps
We do not use tracking cookies, so we do not need a cookie banner. Your browser keeps only what you choose or what makes the site work:
- Language (cookie NEXT_LOCALE, one year): the language you picked.
- Theme (local storage): Light or Dark (only once you choose; dark otherwise).
- The subtitle language you picked, kept for each site language (local storage).
- A note that the Urdu font is already downloaded.
- The random device identifier used for likes and reports (local storage).
- Session cookie (qabas-session, only when signed in, httpOnly).
You can delete all of this at any time in your browser settings.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers who process data on our behalf, only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage): likes, reports, comments, accounts and the share videos.
- Vercel (hosting and delivery of the website).
- Mux (video streaming). The player runs with its analytics and cookies switched off; Mux receives the technical data needed to stream the video.
- Google (sign-in only, when you choose it).
Why we use data
- Delivering the site, likes, reports, abuse prevention and security: needed to run a safe, free service.
- Account and comments: to provide the service you asked for.
- Preferences kept in your browser: your own choice; they never leave your device except the language cookie.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data and for its correction or deletion, and you can object to how we use it. Write to the contact address above; we answer within one month.
Children
Anyone can watch without an account. Accounts and comments are for people aged 14 or older.
Changes
If we change this policy, we publish the new version here with its date. Important changes are announced on the site.
