The Prophet Muhammad
Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the last prophet of Islam. He was born in Mecca, in Arabia, around the year 570. Muslims believe that when he was about forty years old, the angel Jibril (Gabriel) brought him the first verses of the Quran, and that he received it over about twenty-three years, until he died in Medina in the year 632.
Everything Muslims know about his words and his life comes from the Quran and from the hadith, the reports of what he said and did, collected by scholars in books such as Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. Most of our hadith episodes are stories that he told. On this page you will find the episodes in which he himself appears in the story.
In the Hadith of Jibril, a stranger in very white clothes comes and sits before him and asks him about Islam, faith, doing good and the Last Hour. After the stranger leaves, the Prophet tells his companions that it was the angel Jibril, who had come to teach them their religion.
