Prophet Yusuf (Joseph)

Yusuf (peace be upon him), known in English as Joseph, is one of the prophets named in the Quran. He was the son of Prophet Yaqub (Jacob) and the great-grandson of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon them all.

His story fills a whole chapter of the Quran, the twelfth, which carries his name: Surah Yusuf. It is one of the few stories the Quran tells from beginning to end. As a boy, Yusuf sees a dream of eleven stars, the sun and the moon bowing to him. His jealous brothers throw him into a well. He is sold as a slave in Egypt, wrongly accused and sent to prison, and there he explains the dreams of two prisoners and then of the king. He is put in charge of the storehouses of Egypt, and when his brothers come to ask for food, he forgives them, and his family is together again.

The story shows that patience, honesty and trust in Allah are never wasted, even when everything seems lost.
